Maidstone Mudroom

Started some built-in units yesterday for a mudroom. The main features of this project will be a bench seat with storage. Shoe storage with coat rack above and a wall of cabinets in between.

This is a picture taken at the beginning of the second day.

Here we are at the end of day two. Half of the cabinet boxes are built with one installed and another set in place.

By the end of day three I am ready to begin measuring for the doors that I’ll make in my shop over the weekend.

Finished the door frames today.

Tough to get a good image in such a tight space. This is finished minus the coat hooks. At some point in the next few weeks there will be another panel placed to the left of the vertical panel supporting the shelf. The customer requested a door under the shelf even though it means the coats hooks have to be moved out once installed.

Wrapping stair treads

The original stairs were covered in linoleum at some point in time and this basically ruined any chance of staining them and bringing them back. I am wrapping the treads and risers with Doug fir plywood and solid nosing that can be stained and varnished.

About half-way there now.

The wrap is finished and the homeowner is going to stain them up.

Under the Stairs Builtin

I completed the unit which was placed under the stairs. The face frame was wrapped with the same back band used on the door and window trim.

Eagle Street Builtin

So the last two days were spent transporting the boxes/drawers up to the jobsite and installing the units.

After the boxes were shimmed and screwed into the framing, the face frame and drawer fronts were added.

Dresser Built-ins

Today I constructed the drawer boxes and installed the drawer guides. A combination of biscuits, glue and pocket hole screws was used for a fast build that also provides plenty of strength to last over a lifetime of drawer use.

Boxes for the Built-ins

Yesterday I cut and assembled the boxes for the built ins. For now they have been screwed together with both predrilled connections and pocket-hole connections. Once I am positive they will fit the wall openings, I will break them down, glue and reassemble them.

Built-ins For Older Home

I am working in a home that was built in the 1930’s but the bedrooms are small and some of the storage areas are just not very useable. I have two bedrooms that I am creating built-ins for and another built-in will go under the stairs.
